What is a Bookkeeper?

A bookkeeper is someone who records the financial transactions and performs the basic bookkeeping function within a business. A bookkeeper will usually be capable of completing the daybooks, the accounting ledgers and be able to produce a trial balance from the accounting records.

In addition a book-keeper might also be involved in the following:

  1. Setting up bookkeeping systems
  2. Posting journal entries
  3. Reconciling accounts
  4. Calculating and preparing payrolls
  5. Completing and submitting tax forms
  6. Preparing sundry financial and accounting reports
