What are Variable Costs?
Variable costs are costs which will vary in direct proportion to any production or selling activity.
The only question to ask is do the costs vary if the business changes its level of production or selling activity, if the answer is yes then the costs are variable costs.
For further information on the variable costs see the Wikipedia definition.
